 Inductions
Choose the right induction for the right client

There are numerous ways of 'inducing' a trance state in a client.  They can be permissive ("I wonder if you would like to notice how. . .") or authoritarian ("You can feel your arms relaxing . .") - these are also known as direct and indirect methods of induction.  Which method you use will depend on your own preference - many therapists feel uncomfortable using a direct induction whilst others will use nothing else.  The hypnotic subject's expectations will probably also determine which method you use.  Some people expect to be hypnotised instantly and you may find a long, drawn out progressive relaxation script will create resistance in your subject.

Included are a few variations, please practice using different methods so that you have the right one at hand for when you need it.

Arm Levitation

This induction offers power proof to the subject that he or she is really hypnotized

Beautiful Day

A perfect place, a beautiful day, a perfect induction.

Candle Flame Induction

This classic induction was used in the case of Bridey Murphy to regress her to a previous life .

Overload Induction

The mind cannot hold more than 7_+ chunks of information at any one time and escapes by going into a trance

Postural Sway

The sort of induction traditionally used by stage hypnotists

Progressive Relaxation Induction

A traditional but very effective hypnotic induction - used by many hypnotherapists

Rose Induction

You are a beautiful rose - use this visualisation as a means of inducing trance.

Spiral Induction

For use with a hypno-spiral - produces rapid induction

Yogic Breath

An ideal induction for those who don't like the idea of taking deep breaths - very hypnotic
